Job Summary

The EHSS Specialist will report to the Site EHSS Leader. The incumbent will support the site EHSS lead in implementing programs focused on improving the site's EHSS Culture while reducing the risk of EHSS incidents.  This will be achieved through collaboration with site and regional teams to lead the SABIC Safety Health Environmental Management system at the site, as well as engaging and empowering site stakeholders and contractors in all EHSS aspects.

 

How You Can Be the Impact

  • Assist employees in the identification and evaluation of hazardous conditions and practices, e.g. safety risk assessments (SRA), individual hazard risk assessments, job/task analysis, etc.
  • Help determine and co-ordinate implementation controls for hazards identified in the hazards analysis; measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the controls and where applicable, recommend changes to reduce or eliminate work place accidents and injuries.
  • Identify and initiate EHSS concern reporting in SABIC specific electronic reporting system.  Act as system gatekeeper and individual incident investigation lead.  Using this electronic reporting system, and others, help track EHSS metrics and Key Performance Indicators, and assist in reporting on quarterly and monthly basis.
  • Provide safety, security and environmental technical support to ongoing site projects.  This includes both construction projects, as well as business specific projects.  Additionally, support the Site Security Plan and the material review and site approval process.
  • Assist in the further development of the Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) program.
  • Support site specific Safety, Security, Health, Environmental Management System (SHEMS).  Act as element owner for the Documentation and Records element.  Act as element owner for Site Safe Work Practices.  Conduct audits of your own SHEM elements, as well as elements owned by other peers.  Support site specific Management of Change/Pre-startup SHE Review Processes.  Provide training on EHSS topics to employees individually and as a site.  Conduct EHSS inspections/audits at the site.  Issue mainenance and construction work permits.
  • Help maintain compliance for Wixom site safety and environmental activities.  This includes, but is not limited to:

• Environmental Waste disposal certification (RCRA trained) (provided)

• Hazmat Transportation certification (DOT trained) (provided)

• Storm Water Operator certification (Storm water Permit) (provided)

• First Aid Emergency Response Team member (provided)

  • Assist in establishing, implementing and maintaining additional EHSS programs as assigned by the Manager Site EHSS to assure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and SABIC policies.

  • Understanding of OSHA framework and policies.
  • Experience with Envrionmental Management Systems.
  • Experience with Regulatory agencies
  • Public speaking 
  • Ability to articulate safety guidelines to non-EHSS professionals
