JOB SUMMARY

Leads research and development projects supporting development of proprietary solutions resulting in new products, processes and capabilities. Shapes technology strategy, creates innovation platforms, defines manufacturing translations, and provides subject matter expertise in the areas of chemical/polyolefin process development and scale-up, reaction engineering, conceptual process design and flowsheet development and comparative techno-economics. Leverages external collaboration with universities and third parties to further technology development. Experience in the field of novel process/product technology development to enable circular economy and decarbonization is highly valued.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads multidisciplinary teams to develop and propose for implementation new technologies, product platforms with significant business impact
  • Develops new product/process strategies and certifies new methods, procedures and feasibility studies promoting best practices in research methodology
  • Serves as a spokesperson and champion for technology across business units
  • Protects company’s IP position by filing, monitoring and evaluating patents
  • Assesses and addresses safety risks for themselves and their teams, applies higher level thinking about safety to provide paths to abate risks
  • Directs, coaches and mentors multidisciplinary teams within T&I; provides performance feedback, and acts as a technical role model
  • Troubleshoots the most difficult and potentially damaging technical problems

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS

 

  • Ph.D. in related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Minimum of ten years relevant experience in related field, with a PhD (greater number of years of experience with lesser degree of education)
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills
  • Knowledge of chemical recycling technologies, decarbonization and refinery unit operations is preferred.
  • Candidate needs to have strong expertise in development of novel process flowsheets based on limited and sometimes ambiguous data – for both demo and commercial scales.  Engineering solutions should be developed with a holistic view of the process, and with consideration to technology, operations and sustainability aspects.
  • Candidate should have a strong background in various aspects of process development including reaction engineering both from an experimental and modeling perspective. Experience with scale-up of reactor designs from lab through pilot to manufacturing scale is preferred. A theoretical as well as a practical understanding of kinetics, mass transfer and heat transfer limitations and experience in overcoming these limitations through novel reactor designs is important.
  • Candidate should have demonstrated experience in polymer reaction engineering.  Industrial experience in polyolefin technologies is strongly preferred.
