Specialist, BI, PU Upstream






Help achieving optimum business results in the short, medium and long term through

  • Creating and sharing insights in global and regional industry & market trends for the upstream part of the Polyurethane and Functional Chemicals value chains
  • Contributes to the medium term (5 years) market outlook and price forecast for PU Upstream and Functional Chemical for specific product/region combinations in preparation of the 5 years business plan and budget
  • Track competitors, assess the effect of their tactical & strategic moves and suggest direction of action for SABIC
  • Prepare LT supply/ demand & price forecasts to support growth project evaluation
  • Provide timely, accurate, actionable market intelligence solutions and business forecasts to SBU & BU management


Job Responsibilities

  • Track competitors in the area of polyurethane upstream and functional chemicals market, downstream part of the value chains, assesses the effect of competitors' tactical & strategic moves, identifies opportunities and threats to SABIC and suggest direction of action for SABIC
  • Conceptualize, build and maintain cost models/curves and develops short/mid/long term price models for polyurethane upstream and functional chemicals; maintains industry cost models including the position of SABIC and our major competitors for all relevant feedstocks, products and regions
  • Develops forecasts of short term (1-6 months) market prices and contributes to the monthly business forecasting and pricing process for polyurethane upstream and functional chemical markets for relevant regions, providing a strong unbiased input and challenge to SABIC's pricing policies
  • Prepare the medium term (5 year) market outlook and market price forecast for polyurethane upstream and functional chemicals as part of the SBU's annual business plan and budget process and present to business unit leadership include all business team members, global business director and in summary to the VP Chemicals
  • Develops and maintains the models used to forecast long term (20+ year) price forecasts for polyurethane upstream and functional chemicals which are used, together with marketing plan also developed by the job holder, in the evaluating all new investment and major capital projects for polyurethanes upstream and functional chemicals
  • Prepares weekly, monthly and quarterly reports on polyurethane upstream and functional chemicals industry. Reports are used by business management and also combined into SBU monthly report submitted to the CEO.
  • Brings, for all SBU-relevant industries and market segments, key industry insights and analysis of specific industry opportunities in support of and in close collaboration with the marketing and business development roles in Business. Researches unknown market territories and evaluates attractiveness of new potential markets, customer segments & applications
  • Identify the external information sources (national, public and private databases, subscriptions, market info consultancies), assess the quality  and extract relevant information for the SBU to support analysis, create market insights, support business and segment teams
  • Develop and maintain deep insight into developments in global polyurethane upstream and functional chemicals markets and provide industry & market intelligence support for SABIC polyurethane upstream and functional chemicals including e.g. TDI, MDI, PO, BGE, IPA amongst others TBD




  • Master degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineer, preferably combined with business administrations, finance or economics
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in the petrochemicals or in an related industrial environment; financial and business analytical skills required; good knowledge of the petrochemical industry
  • Proven knowledge about chemical market (polyurethanes and functional chemicals), drivers, key players and value chains
  • Deep understanding of global chemical markets, specific on polyurethanes, functional chemicals and related products
  • Ability to analyze and forecast often from incomplete data
