Job Summary

Responsible for the safe and environmentally compliant industrial manufacturing operation of all equipment, control systems, associated auxiliaries and environmental compliance in an assigned manufacturing operation; which may include chemical operations, and/or utilities. Must have the ability and willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, holidays, and to work a reasonable level of scheduled and unscheduled overtime.

Job purpose

Responsible for testing raw materials, process control and finish products to ensure they are conforming to test methods, specification and inspection plan as well as complying with the Quality Management system. The individual’s responsibilities towards EHSS (Environment Health Safety and Security) standard include his/her own work, as well as enforcing the rules and procedures in all the work done in the company.

 

Job Responsibilities 

EHSS Compliance and Legislations

  • Engage in site EHSS activities and initiative E.g. Timely complete EHSS Training, report safety observations, near miss, participate in Job Safety Analysis, support audits, correction of hazards and unsafe conditions, support EHSS investigations.
  • Perform and maintain 5S activities and good housekeeping in lab. Ensure upkeep of lab all time.
  • Participate in risk assessments and investigation when needed.

 

Quality Control

  • Operate analytical equipment such as GC, GCMS, HPLC, FTIR spectrophotometer for analysis of raw material, in-process sample and finished goods as per test plan.
  • Ensure accurate data generation and entry of records into LIMS.
  • Verify incoming raw material quality according to the established operation procedures and safety risk assessment.
  • Conduct chemical and physical properties analyses in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) and offer batch adjustments to the operation team as required during production process.
  • Record and organize testing records systematically for traceability.
  • Co-ordinate QC release for in-process and finish goods test results. Monitor test parameters to ensure process condition and specification compliance during routine QC release.
  • Monitor control charts to identify need for new standards or instrument maintenance.
  • Be a valuable resource for the shift operation team, assisting them in prioritizing testing to ensure swift responses to production needs and maintain accurate product quality status.
  • Develop standard operating procedures comply to ISO9001:2015. Participate in timely Safety Risk Assessment review of lab operations.
  • Conduct calibration and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment is functioning correctly; troubleshoot any issues when needed.
  • Ensure safe-keeping and tracking movement of laboratory inventories i.e. chemicals, reagents, solvents, apparatus, consumables, disposables, spare parts of equipment’s etc.
  • Work closely with key QA, Production, Logistic, and EHS personnel to support them in laboratory testing and troubleshooting when required.
  • Support molding activities required for specimen preparation and physical properties testing on molded specimens as and when required.

 

Analytical Testing

  • Knowledge of various operations and analytical techniques to interpret material characterization by using analytical instruments.

 

Analytical and Troubleshooting mindset

  • Conduct and support laboratory root cause(s) investigation on laboratory equipment failure and result abnormalities. Take initiative to conduct preparation and laboratory analysis on unusual test results to determine the cause of the non-conformance and correct.
  • Able to use statistical calculation to interpreter data by using statistical tools.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Min. Diploma or Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Chemical Process Technology, Bioscience or equivalent. 
  • 3 years’ relevant work experience, preferably with chemical wet laboratory operation experience
  • Experience and knowledge of analytical and wet lab equipment maintenance/operation and result analysis.
  • Experience and knowledge of Quality standards & test methods. In-depth knowledge of lab procedures and able to perform accurate chemical and physical analysis with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge in molding operation and familiarity with physical property testing of polymer materials, such as tensile, flexural, impact, MFI or other characterization techniques, will be an advantage.
  • Relevant experience in manufacturing environment working with standard laboratory software – Microsoft Excel, LIMS, SAP system will be an added advantage.
  • Able to interpret and adhere to standard operating procedures, work instructions, reports, forms, risk assessment.
  • Experience in SAP QM for update QA test data and release.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Able to perform rotating shift work.
