Job Summary

The embedded Analytical Sciences organization helps drive business growth by applying a broad set of characterization capabilities to challenging research problems arising during process and product development, manufacturing, and commercial operations. Due to growth and expansion of on-site activities, we are currently seeking an analytical chemist to join our team of scientists at the Selkirk, NY site. As part of the Analytical team, you will collaborate with our internal customers (e.g., product developers, process technologists and engineers, application specialists, commercial teams) to find innovative solutions to challenging problems, advance Specialties’ research programs, develop intellectual property, and address customer and manufacturing issues. Our renovated labs are well-equipped and include a wide range of analytical instrumentation.

 

How You Can Be the Impact

  • Apply gas chromatography and mass spectrometry expertise to identify and quantify volatile and semi-volatile small molecules related to polymers.
  • Execute required routine and non-routine chromatographic techniques. Develop new methods as needed. Communicate key findings, data-based conclusions, and recommendations orally and in writing.
  • Seek out, evaluate, and establish new characterization capabilities that benefit the business. Update strategic plans for the chromatography area.
  • Maintain a productive laboratory workspace, including troubleshooting and repairing instrumentation, with relentless attention to safe laboratory practices and conditions.

 

What Matters to SABIC

  • PhD degree, or MSc degree with 5+ years of experience, in Chemistry or a related field with a focus on Separations.
  •  Gas chromatography application and method development expertise.
  • Small molecule mass spectrometry techniques and data interpretation skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mass analyzers, such as Waters, Agilent, or Thermo.
  • Use of relevant data acquisition and processing software, such as ChemStation and MassHunter.
  • Strong motivation to learn new technologies and concepts and continuously improve, including expanding into liquid chromatography and growing into an expert.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.Strong project management skills
  • Outstanding ability to interface and work across functions.

  • Experience with identifying compounds by mass fragmentation patterns.
  • Experience with various sample introduction techniques, such as pyrolysis, thermal desorption, and headspace.
  • Experience with method qualification protocols, round robins, design of experiments (DOE), and statistics.
  • Knowledge of polymers systems, polymer separations, and other polymer characterization techniques.

This role is on our Technical Career Ladder (OR MDCP) and the salary range listed reflects multiple grades. Candidates will be evaluated based on their education, experience and skill level. Future pay increases are annual based on performance.”
