Job Summary

As part of the Analytical Technology organization, this position will be responsible for conducting various laboratory tasks related to the chemical characterization of polymeric systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for routine testing and method development primarily utilizing Spectroscopic Techniques as well as maintaining several instruments and other laboratory equipment and supplies. The successful candidate will work under the direction of senior analytical staff and collaborate with product and process technologists and the manufacturing organization to provide critical data needed to advance ongoing research projects and support manufacturing operations. Relocation assistance available if needed. 

 

How You Can Be the Impact

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting various laboratory tasks related to the chemical characterization of polymeric systems, including:

  • Prepare samples, collect and interpret various spectroscopic (FTIR, NIR, UV-Vis, optical) data for customer support, technology-development, and non-standard manufacturing requests.
  • Report key findings to colleagues via written reports and oral presentations and documenting results using data management systems .
  • Conduct routine instrument maintenance, schedule preventative maintenance, and perform general lab support activities.
  • Support other techniques and their workload (e.g. NMR, chromatography, microscopy, elemental, wet chem) by working closely with team members.
  • Provide diagnostic support to Manufacturing QA labs by troubleshooting existing methods and assisting in the transfer of new methods.
  • Develop and implement new methods as needed, including for non-routine techniques.
  • Own and lead safety activities related to spectroscopy, including relentless attention to safe laboratory practices and conditions, Management of Change (MOC) procedures, Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs), and proper chemical management.
 

What Matters to SABIC

  • BS/BA degree in chemistry, materials science, or related field of study or relevant work experience
  • Basic familiarity and application of vibrational spectroscopy
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational, written & oral communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Hands-on technical experience with operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation
  • Ability to safely handle hazardous solvents and other materials (training provided)

Work Availability

Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Applicants must be regularly available and willing to work  Monday – Friday during assigned hours of operation and such other hours as the company determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
