Job Summary

The Oligomers Technology & Selkirk Pilot Plant Operations Technician is responsible for safely & compliantly supporting development of innovative product and process technologies to grow the SHPP business.  This role requires developing expertise in all operational aspects of running and maintaining the PSM-regulated Selkirk Pilot Plant.  Additionally, the role requires working in chemistry and materials labs, including safe handling of existing and new chemicals, running chemical reactions and test methods, accurately generating data, documenting work, and communicating results.

 

How You Can Be the Impact

    • Responsible for operation of the Selkirk Technology Pilot Plant & Labs facility with minimal supervision.
    • Duties include, but are not limited to, ensuring compliance with Environmental, Quality, Housekeeping and Safety rules and initiatives, planning and execution of plant trials both within the pilot and commercial facilities.
    • Operating of laboratory and analytical testing equipment and record keeping. This position requires flexibility in the rotation through any job required for the Technology Pilot Plant Operations Group to meet its goals and will require periodic assignment to evenings or rotating shifts.
    • Must possess thorough knowledge of chemical operations to enable troubleshooting of process and equipment problems, responding to emergency situations and performance of operations PMs, and minor preventative maintenance duties.
    • Responsibilities include prioritization, planning and completion of work to meet team and unit goals and training.
    • Develop knowledge and expertise to handle hazardous experimental materials for customer validation.
    • Position requires ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis and ability to wear a wet chemical suit, respirator, and work in extreme temperatures.

 

 

What Matters to SABIC

    • Minimum 5 years Chemical Operations experience in a related area, including familiarity with DCS operations and safe handling of pilot plant/lab chemicals.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Effective technical documentation and presentation skills.
    • Ability to interact, communicate, and work with a global team.
    • Demonstrated leadership, organization, planning, and record keeping skills.
    • Demonstrated mechanical, instrumentation and troubleshooting skills.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and functions in a team environment.
    • Ability to work overtime as required.

 

Physical Requirements: Must be comfortable with heights, capable of climbing and working within closed spaces.
