Job Summary
This position is a critical part of our product development lab, and will be responsible for the development of injection molding conditions for highly filled compounds for both in-house testing and customer applications; hands-on execution of molding projects that require such development.
How You Can Be the Impact
- Provide injection molding expertise during the product development process.
- Provide mold tooling design expertise as needed to develop new or modify existing tooling to enable new testing capabilities or enable new materials to mold satisfactorily.
- Work with product developers to define and optimize molding conditions for new products and product platforms using designed experiments and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Translate optimized molding conditions for new products into written standard operating procedures (SOP’s) for the local product development labs and provide support.
- Translate optimized molding conditions for new product into written standard operating procedures (SOP’s) for Manufacturing Quality Control and provide support.
- Support external/customer molding trials if needed, and act as a resource for customers and other SABIC team members.
- Evaluate alternative conversion processes beyond injection molding and interface with Global Application Technology team.
- Providing molding training/support to local lab technicians and develop/maintain training materials.
- Evaluate and implement new molding technologies.
- Own capital expenditure projects for identifying, specifying and purchasing new molding equipment, ancillary equipment and tooling.
What Matters to SABIC
BS/BA degree in polymers or materials science or engineering; chemical engineering; mechanical engineering; or related major. Alternatively, at least 5 years of applied industrial experience in an injection molding environment.
• Expertise in injection molding processes, equipment and tooling
• Hands-on experience setting up and operating injection molding machines
• Knowledge of mold design with ability to identify and correct mold design issues impacting the performance and appearance of molded parts
• Demonstrated ability to identify and evaluate new molding technology
• Excellent math skills including algebra
• Demonstrated excellent organization skills and record keeping
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
• Work overtime as required
• Proficient in use of personal computer and Microsoft business/technical and Excel basics software
• Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally
• Willing to travel 10% (potentially up to 20%) time to other SABIC sites globally or to external vendors and customers
