Job Summary

SABIC’s Global Application Technology team is looking for a Sr. Scientist/Engineer to create competitive advantage for SABIC by solving current and future industry needs related to the application of our advanced materials. As part of the team, you will focus development efforts in emerging spaces that require demanding engineering performance such as sustainable polymers, self-driving vehicles, energy storage, aerospace, and 5G communications. The role is responsible for developing part design, processing, and materials knowledge our customers need to use SABIC Specialties’ materials in their products. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, applies good science, and enjoys hands-on process development activities.

 

How You Can Be the Impact

  • Work in a safe and compliant manner
  • Generate plans and proposals for new development through technical knowledge and research
  • Conduct processing studies with commercial and developmental resins. Optimize processing conditions using data acquisition software and end-product performance testing.
  • Apply scientific fundamentals including research, experimentation, analysis and interpretation of results
  • Manage and execute significant, global research and development projects from start to finish
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to define project deliverables and test protocols for development programs
  • Document experimental findings and know-how for internal technical reports, external publications as well as patent applications when appropriate

 

 

What Matters to SABIC

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering or Materials Science
  • 5 or more years of relevant technical experience in plastic processing areas such as R&D, Manufacturing, or Part Design
  • Strong hands-on ability and solid understanding of mechanical design principles and part performance
  • Demonstrated problem solving capability with experimental design and statistical analysis experience. Experience with JMP, Minitab, or equivalent software preferred.
  • Must work well in a team atmosphere
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong presentation and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks and/or FEA a plus
