Job Summary

This position is for a technically strong engineer with effective communication and leadership skills, high energy and motivation. The qualified candidate will be working with process automation and engineering teams in a plastics resin manufacturing facility with one of the world’s leading thermoplastic producers. The facility operates over diverse assets/machineries with varying degrees of automation and complexity. Equipment include extruders, blenders, packaging equipment, motors, PD blowers, pumps, valves, agitators, dryers, filters, centrifuges and a variety of water treatment and ventilation assets, all operating 24/7. The individual will be working independently to support and provide continuous improvement of plant operations and automation systems including DCS, PLC, HMI, SIS, Data Historian, Alarm Management, and instrumentation.

 

How You Can Be the Impact

  • Provide DCS and PLC programming and controls engineering support for projects and day-to-day issues including potential off shift support for the plant PLC and DCS systems in coordination with other members of the process control team.
  • Responsible for improving instrumentation systems reliability through the development and implementation of a predictive and preventive systems maintenance process.
  • Execute analytical and troubleshooting skills to address instrumentation systems issues. Conduct root cause analysis to improve system reliability.
  • Responsible for managing and administering advanced manufacturing systems on the Ottawa Site including IP21 Data Historian and Logmate Alarm Management System.
  • Develop and deploy methodology to monitor and reduce system failures.
  • Management, control, and updating of the process control network equipment.
  • Develop job scopes for capital and maintenance instrumentation related engineering work to be executed.
  • Provide technical reliability direction for instrumentation to key stakeholders.

 

What Matters to SABIC

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, or Engineering Technology, and at least 3 years industrial experience (other engineering disciplines considered if experience is appropriate to responsibilities)
  • Familiarity with controls and instrumentation hardware and systems used in chemical industry applications such as control valves, flow elements, temperature and pressure related equipment, level monitoring equipment, analyzers, logic systems and process historians.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Have experience with Safety Interlock Systems, DCS, PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems. Preferably Emerson DeltaV SIS, Emerson Delta V DCS, ABB System Six DCS, Modicon PLCs and Rockwell FactoryTalk SCADA systems.
  • Working knowledge of the PHA (process hazard analysis) process and method, specifically, a process that conducts scenario based reviews of safety critical equipment, instruments, and circuits.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and task to complete them efficiently, with high quality, on time, and within budget.
  • Experience with using a methodical hands-on approach to troubleshooting complex electrical/electronic/controls/programming problems and ability to teach and mentor operations technicians, maintenance technicians, and process control technicians in these methods.
