Job Summary

The Health and Safety Engineer position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, evaluation, and execution of SABIC’s Health and Safety programs, demonstrating a commitment to employees and stewardship for the community. This position requires close communication with EHSS functional experts on the Americas EHSS team and other SABIC Manufacturing Facility EHSS teams to ensure successful implementation of policies/procedures and effective health and safety programs. Responsibilities include:

 

How You Can Be the Impact

  • Lead the development and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations and advise site management of integration into the site culture;
  • Evaluate and monitor the practices and procedures to assess risk and adherence to regulations as well as the effectiveness of existing programs by being in the operations and maintenance area at least 50% of the time;
  • Provide technical support to front-line leadership on matters related to occupational safety & health compliance and loss prevention;
  • Develop, plan and implement Health and Safety programs to train managers, employees and contractors in work site health and safety practices, i.e. site wide presentations;
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices through work site knowledge, employee interactions, and work site inspections/audits;
  • Perform Industrial Hygiene fieldwork to include asbestos surveys, microbial evaluations, indoor air quality evaluations, lead-based paint surveys, noise monitoring, dust exposure evaluations and employee exposure monitoring.
  • Assist in investigations of accidents or incidents to aid in determining root causes;
  • Recommend solutions and assist in achieving compliance for health and safety concerns, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures as well as follow up in compliance activities to ensure implementation of corrective actions;
  • Prepare and deliver required reports and documents for internal health and safety KPIs/statistics and to state and federal regulatory agencies;
  • Serve as management representative for OSHA and all federal and state regulatory agencies

 

What Matters to SABIC

  • Bachelor degree in safety/industrial hygiene or 5 years minimum experience in related industry or consulting role performing Health & Safety activities.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations: LOTO, machine guarding, accident investigation and safety training methods, industrial hygiene requirements, etc.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Ability to create/drive change.
  • The ideal candidate will be an independent thinker, change agent with customer focus, data/fact driven decision maker with the ability to organize and lead global teams.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or equivalent certification
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and written skills
  • Strong influencing skills with the ability to operate effectively within a matrix and team environment gaining commitment at all organizational levels.
  • Work independently and in a global environment taking responsibility for delivery of business expectations.

Work Availability

Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Applicants must be regularly available and willing to work (e.g. Monday – Friday) during assigned hours of operation and such other hours as the company determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs
