Job Summary
The Process Automation Technician is responsible for technical support of Distributed Control System(s) (DCS)/Safety Instrumented System(s) (SIS) and Programmable Control System(s) (PLC), the local control networks, and all associated applications and system software. This role will use SAP to strategically plan and organize process automation workload across the business unit. Will interface on a daily basis with operations personnel to ensure all systems are smoothly operating and troubleshoot when necessary.
The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, solid background of self-direction, work prioritization and will be able to gain support from Operations, Maintenance, Process and Project Engineering personnel. Will frequently interact with site management, vendors and contractors.
How You Can Be the Impact
- Leadership of small to medium sized Process Automation projects; developing and incorporating process control improvements.
- Generation of process control narratives and flowcharts.
- Code and graphics development, simulation testing, loop and interlock checks.
- Documentation and implementation of process control code of all types; Sequence, SFC, Ladder & Function block.
- Implement and monitor cyber security as it applies to the Process Automation Systems. E.g. Anti-virus updates, Microsoft patches, Vendor system patches. Perform, validate and verify system backups and disaster recovery.
- Strong working knowledge on interfacing communication technologies; Ethernet-IP, Modbus, Modbus TCP, Profibus, Profinet, Fieldbus and DH/DH+
- Support Process Automation operations in the unit through attendance of HAZOP’s, PHA’s, LOPA and MOC meetings.
- Maintenance and update of all DCS/SIS/PLC related hardware and software.
- Troubleshoot, analyze, develop and implement improvements and mitigation strategies to maintain Process Automation System performance.
- Train Operations personnel on control related improvements.
- Respond in a timely manner to plant and control system issues.
What Matters to SABIC
- 5 years of DCS control related experience and Associates Degree in Instrumentation & Controls, Electrical Engineering Technology or Computer Science OR 2 years of DCS control related experience and Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation & Controls, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
