Job Summary
SABIC is looking for a creative and resourceful Chemist who is seeking to use their technical and project leadership skills to help a diversified global business achieve its ambitious goals. The opportunities in this role are suited for individuals who enjoy leading/supporting a mix of projects including new chemistry development from bench to piloting and manufacturing scale-up. The ideal candidate is passionate about finding problems and developing creative solutions at all scales of materials development: the lab, pilot plant and commercial scales
How You Can Be the Impact
- Understand customer needs in SABIC’s strategic focus areas that are worth solving.
- Develop and validate hypotheses based on project/platform criteria from proof-of-concept in lab, through prototype/pilot, to eventual manufacturing scale to create and commercialize differentiated product offerings for customers.
- Analyze data critically by using appropriate tools, draw logical conclusions and recommend decisions/next-steps to project team.
- Develop and execute lab and pilot work plans/tasks safely to generate accurate and reliable data within the pre-defined timelines.
- Establish internal networks within Technology function and cross-functionally and learn/understand/use the internal Technology and Business processes to complete project deliverables effectively.
- Build external networks with technology providers, universities, tollers, suppliers, etc. as appropriate to help advance projects.
- Promote open technical communication, including knowledge management/timely documentation.
What Matters to SABIC
- Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree will be considered with minimum 4 years of relevant experience in chemical industry.
- Fundamental knowledge and understanding of organic chemistry, organic synthesis, polymer synthesis and polymer structure-property relationships.
- Hands-on experience in the chemical synthesis of specialty molecules, monomers and polymers in lab. Pilot experience is preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated good practice of scientific methodologies.
- Proven track record of problem finding and solving with a creative mindset.
- Self-driven and proactive with the ability to independently identify new opportunities
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Team player who actively engages and effectively communicates with cross-technology global team to achieve the shared goals/objectives.
- Able to work flexible hours as needed to accommodate global team projects.
