Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Specialist to join our Industry Regulations team at SABIC's Business Unit of Specialties. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with marketing and technology to identify opportunities for material innovation in regulated markets. Your expertise will be critical in influencing the development of codes, standards, and regulations that drive specification of SABIC materials in key markets, including medical devices, mobility, electronics, infrastructure, and more.

 

How You Can Be the Impact

 

  • You will liaise with and take part in the US and European agencies (FDA, EPA, NTHSA, ACC, SPE, ASTM, IEC, CEN, etc.) to develop and advocate for codes/standards/regulations that help drive the specification of SABIC materials in regulated/standardized markets including mobility, electronics, infrastructure, and other emerging applications. You should be able to understand and interpret the prevailing end-use codes/standards/regulations for devices and components with the focus on influencing the development process.
  • You will evaluate and monitor regional and global regulatory trends in key markets and emerging markets and provide regulatory guidance to our Technology and Marketing teams.
  • You will develop short-term and long-term regulatory strategies in various industrial markets based on deep industry and customer knowledge that is aligned with our business strategies.
  • You will be a key contributor to form commercial and technology strategies by fully integrating with commercial and technological teams.
  • Being able to influence external stakeholders based on established reputation in various regulatory and standard setting bodies.
  • You will also be responsible for assessing and managing application risk associated with new business opportunities identified by the commercial teams (North and South America and Europe). 
  • Provide technical support on regulatory aspects for external customers, internal commercial, marketing and technology teams.

 

What Matters to SABIC

  • BS in Engineering, Chemistry or Materials Science; MS desired.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the plastic industry.
  • Good understanding of polymer chemistry, resin formulations and typical plastics additives, especially flame retardants.
  • Well-developed English language skills, both written and spoken.
  • Well established network and reputation as an expert in regulatory bodies and standard development organizations that will influence thermoplastics applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of global regulatory and standards agencies that mandate the end-use performance of plastic applications in markets such as Medical Devices, Electronics, Transportation and Infrastructure.
  • Broad experience serving on technical committees of various regulation and standards organizations is a must.
  • Deep knowledge on thermoplastic material performance and related testing such as flame, smoke and toxicity.
  • Deep application development knowledge including part design, material selection, application performance and failure mechanisms, etc.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to effectively work across multiple programs and across multiple regions.
  • Familiarity with standards bodies such IEC, UL, ASTM, ISO, etc. and familiar with third-party listing agencies such as UL, VDE, TÜV, etc.
  • 25% traveling
