(Sr.) Civil Engineer

We are looking for a Sr. Civil Engineer for our Asset Engineering Department. The department with currently 12 employees is essentially responsible for the integrity and reliability of our assets in Gelsenkirchen. In order to meet the internal and external requirements, we work closely with internal departments in Gelsenkirchen and other technical departments of SABIC worldwide. In addition, we also work together with authorities and suppliers to ensure the integrity and reliability of our assets.

Job Purpose & Responsibilities
As Sr. Civil Engineer, you take care of the integrity, reliability, technical improvements and safe design of our civil equipment. In close contact with internal and external stakeholders, notified body’s, suppliers etc. you will successfully ensure the performance of the plants in the area of responsibility. With your civil engineering expertise and team skills, you coordinate, train and provide technical requirements in a Team of Asset Engineers and the Plant Maintenance Department.


• Integrity, reliability and criticality assessments in the area of responsibility
• Monitoring, analysis and improvement of equipment performance
• Key role in audits and follow-up the implementation of findings, recommendations and observations
• Actively promote, mentor and INSPIRE others
• Develop and optimize technically requirements
• Commitment and ENGAGEment in effectively meeting I/R objectives and budget targets
• Leading of complex projects as well as studies
• Scoping and execution of projects in close cooperation with SABIC’s Engineering & Project Management organization including budgeting conform the CapEx-process
• Provides (as an expert) technical leadership for I/R on site and gives leading recommendations to site management and project teams.
• DELIVER assets meets the legal obligations according to German legislations as well as SABIC Operational Management Standards
• Actively promote of Best Practices, SABIC Manufacturing Standards etc. within the site
• CREATE and foster an open and cooperative team spirit
We are looking for a proactive and responsible person with detailed Civil knowledge in the chemical industry (petrochemicals preferred), able to adapt to different situations and stakeholders driven by daily business.

A successful candidate will bring:
• A MSc Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in Civil Engineering for the chemical industry.
• Attitude of compliance with all company and regulatory requirements
• A motivating and collaborating team player, willing to mentor other team members and not reluctant to take decisions and accountabilities
• Ability to identify and set priorities
• Proven experience of collaboration and cooperation with other disciplines and stakeholders
• Stress resistant in a fast changing and dynamic environment
• Excellent communication skills in German and English
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, including suppliers and authority’s
• Additional experiences in project management as well as EHSS are a plus
