Sr. Scientist, Catalyst PDR

DEPARTMENT

SABIC`s Technology and Innovation (T&I) network consists of more than 1700 employees across six research- and ten application centers around the world. SABIC’s innovation journey is a key enabler for achieving the company’s vision to become the world leader in the chemical industry. Within the T&I organization, the Corporate Research Department (CRD) has the purpose to identify and drive the developments of new products, applications, and processes. The High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) team in Geleen is part of the PO catalysis group under the Polymer and Material Science (P&MS) organization within CRD. The HTE team contributes to the development of new materials and catalysts for multiple businesses and products using state of the art polymerization and polymer characterization workflows.  

 

JOB PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES

As a High Throughput Expert for Polyolefin Catalysis, you will be part of the global PO Catalysis team within Corporate T&I. You will be contributing to the technology development projects for the PetChem business in the professional and international technology organization. Your tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Actively engaging and collaborating with scientists from multiple product groups and teams across the globe to define, plan, design, and execute polyolefin research programs for the High Throughput Experimentation workflow.
  • Delivering high quality scientific reports on the experimental programs.
  • Effectively interacts with direct colleagues, global R&D experts across discipline, business and academia to develop innovative ideas and translate these into project proposals.
  • Translating business objectives and project goals into designs of polymerization experiments, securing flawless execution and reporting the results to stakeholders.
  • Actively contribute to competence development and knowledge sharing for self and others in the field of Polyolefin Catalysis and High Throughput Experimentation by keeping track of academic and industrial developments.
  • Working effectively with internal and external partners to lead, organize and drive continuous improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the high throughput workflow in terms of output, quality, consistency and costs.
  • Delivering on project milestones in a multi-disciplinary approach and in close collaboration with various scientists, like material scientists, chemists, process engineers and analytical experts across the globe.
  • Assisting the team in operating the platforms whenever required
  • Ensuring all your activities are in accordance to SABIC EHSS standards with high commitment for safety and data quality.
  • Functionally leading activities assigned to process operators and technicians, ensuring safety and data quality.
  • Effectively archiving complex data streams, facilitating data mining and contributing to corporate digitalization programs

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • You are educated in chemistry or polymer technology at PhD level.
  • You have relevant experience in olefin polymerization catalysis, in designing, executing and evaluating polymerization experiments, including associated polymer characterization techniques and material properties.
  • You have a good understanding of the overall production process, chemistry & catalysis as well as product properties.
  • You are skilled in statistical experimentation (Design of Experiments), statistical process control and analysis of complex data sets.
  • You have a strong affinity with digitalization programs connected to archiving of and searching through large and complex data sets.
  • You are a critical observer as well as a conceptual and analytical thinker.
  • You are able to spot opportunities for existing and new processes and products and translate these into value propositions for the business.
  • You are able to spot opportunities, develop project proposals and present those in a convincing manner to a variety of stakeholders, both technical and commercial.
  • You are able to keep abreast of the state of the art in high throughput experimentation and gain knowledge of associated fields and disciplines.
  • You are able to identify opportunities for valuable external collaborations and participate in projects with Universities, institutes and other companies, such as technology suppliers.
  • You are a team player but you are also able to work independently on your contribution.
  • You have a persevering and challenging attitude towards your work environment, but you can also accept other views.
  • You are fluent in oral and written English with excellent technical communication skills
