JOB PURPOSE:

 

Bring experience on Structure-Property relations in connection to functional additives and polymer processing to initiate, lead and contribute to research and development projects.

 

Contribute to the team on the development of proprietary solutions resulting in new products as well as understanding its structure-morphology-processing-property relationships.      

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to T&I research goals through generating and fostering novel and diverse ideas with major business impact.
  • Participation in Polymer Stabilization Competency at T&I. This includes contributing (either as project leader, team member, or advisor) in projects where stabilization or polyolefin degradation plays an important role, making sure that the stabilization expertise is readily available for all colleagues, and, ensuring that the competency is delivered as an integrated result of projects.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient execution of the assigned research activities, report and implement, and let results to steer/manage the stabilization focused project portfolio.
  • Stay abreast of relevant scientific developments in polymer stabilization, either at institutes and universities, as well as in the industrial environment (new market trends, market opportunities, etc.).
  • Reach out to and collaborate with external partners (i.e. additive suppliers or academia) to assess the potential of novel developments and further the stabilization competence.
  • Collaborate closely with other competencies in the team, bridging the fields of structure-property relations, mechanical performance, rheology of polymer melts, and compounding.
  • Promoting awareness and the need for open technical communication including knowledge-management.
  • Be aware of and act on opportunities or threats in Intellectual Property.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

  • PhD and/or Master’s Degree in Organic Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science or related discipline.
  • Knowledge on polymer degradation and stabilization packages.
  • Knowledge and experience in polymer synthesis, processing, characterization and application.
  • Understanding of polymer characterization including mechanical, optical, thermal, UV and chemical resistance properties.
  • Strong desire to collaborate. Good communication skills are required.
  • Team player being able to operate and communicate in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • The position requires excellent written and oral English communication skills.

 

Location: STC-Geleen, The Netherlands

Travel: up to 15% (regionally and globally)
