DEPARTMENT
Technology and Innovation Petrochemicals consists of more than 750 employees across six Technology Centers around the world. The T&I organization supports SABIC’s global businesses in realizing its objectives by providing best-in-class technology solutions.
In Europe, the SABIC Technology Center Europe (STC-E) is based in Geleen (The Netherlands) and Wilton (United Kingdom). The primary activity of Cracker Technology EUR department is to define and deploy technology development projects aimed at the optimization and improvement of existing petrochemical processes and development of new ones.
We are looking for a Lead/Staff Scientist to join our team.
JOB PURPOSE:
As a Scientist, you will be working in the Feedstocks and Cracker Technology EUR department as part of the professional, global T&I organization.
Your tasks and responsibilities include:
- Provide technology support to SABIC’s world-scale Olefins plants with focus on identifying and implementing technology improvement projects for overall process optimization.
- Analyze key process trends and translate findings into actionable recommendations to enhance plant performance and increase process reliability.
- Troubleshoot, identifying benchmarking performance gaps and developing technical solutions to close gaps based on in-depth analysis of plant data is an integral part of the role.
- To work in a multidisciplinary setting within the T&I organization where you will collaborate with different disciplines in the business and manufacturing environment where project approval, execution and implementation need to be secured.
Main Responsibilities:
- Identifying, developing and implementing short-, mid- and long-term technology projects in steam crackers for overall process optimization.
- Coordinate and execute plant troubleshooting efforts to ensure effective technology solutions are provided in a timely manner to address plant improvement opportunities.
- Apply robust scientific methodologies to analyze and interpret complex plant data, and develop and utilize simulations, predictive modeling and analysis for plant improvement purposes.
- Conduct due diligence and feasibility studies on emerging technologies and advancements for olefins production. Translate technical knowledge into relevant recommendations and guidance for senior management.
- Support the Business in evaluation of projects for grassroots petrochemical complexes, capacity expansions, integrations and asset improvements.
- Capture and protect intellectual property related to mentioned activities.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Bachelor and/or Master’s Degree (Technical Equivalent) or Ph.D degree in Chemistry, MSc, EngD preferred
- Fluency in English (both written and verbal) other additional European languages a bonus
- Minimum 15 years of relevant industrial experience (petrochemicals or refinery) with at least 5+ years of experience in olefins process technology
- Experience with steam cracker-refinery integration is desirable.
- You have experience in reaction engineering, separation thermodynamics, modeling and the use of computational tools such as ASPEN Plus/HYSYS, Petro-SIM, HTRI and others.
- You are able to keep abreast of the state of the art in process technology and gain knowledge of associated fields and disciplines.
- You are a team player but you are also able to work independently on your contribution.
- You like to work in a global and multi-cultural environment and respect other cultures.
- You have a persevering and challenging attitude towards your work environment, but you can also accept other views.
- You are a critical observer as well as a conceptual and analytical thinker.

Location: STC-Geleen, The Netherlands
Travel: 25% (regionally and globally)
