DEPARTMENT

Technology and Innovation Petrochemicals consists of more than 750 employees across six Technology Centers around the world. The T&I organization supports SABIC’s global businesses in realizing its objectives by providing best-in-class technology solutions.

In Europe, the SABIC Technology Center Europe (STC-E) is based in Geleen (The Netherlands) and Wilton (United Kingdom). The primary activity of Cracker Technology EUR department is to define and deploy technology development projects aimed at the optimization and improvement of existing petrochemical processes and development of new ones.

Olefins Process Development Chemist - Senior Scientist

JOB PURPOSE:

As a Senior Scientist, you will be working in the Feedstocks and Cracker Technology EUR department as part of the professional, global T&I organization.

Main Responsibilities:

• To define and execute process chemistry-related activities to improve the performance of existing steam crackers in terms of reliability, energy and material efficiency: avoid undesired polymerization, ensure good separation water-hydrocarbons, anti-corrosion, etc.
• To work in a multidisciplinary setting within the T&I organization where you will collaborate with different disciplines in the business and manufacturing environment where project approval, execution and implementation need to be secured.
• Support olefins plants in identification of root cause of fouling and to develop fouling mitigation strategies along with driving them for realization
• To support manufacturing and business on technical service requests concerning process chemistry in cracker technology.
• To deliver process chemistry solutions to improve production and performance in terms of output, energy, quality, consistency and costs.
• For this, translating plant conditions into experiments, and results into practical recommendations is crucial.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum Bachelor and/or Master’s Degree (Technical Equivalent) or Ph.D degree in Chemistry, MSc, EngD preferred        
• Fluency in English (both written and verbal) other additional European languages a bonus
• You have minimum 5 years of experience in an industrial research environment.
• You have preferably experience in steam cracking process, process chemistry (organic, colloidal, analytical, water chemistry) and have good statistical skills (design of experiments, etc.).
• Experience in olefins process technology is an advantage
• You are willing to grow your experience within process development in an industrial R&D and project-based environment.
• You are able to keep abreast of the state of the art in chemistry solutions and process technology and gain knowledge of associated fields and disciplines.
• You are a team player but you are also able to work independently on your contribution.
• You like to work in a global and multi-cultural environment and respect other cultures.
• You have a persevering and challenging attitude towards your work environment, but you can also accept other views.
• You are a critical observer as well as a conceptual and analytical thinker.
• You are able to spot opportunities and translate these into value propositions for the business.
• You are able to present your project proposals and results in a convincing manner to both business and manufacturing management.

Location: STC-Geleen, The Netherlands

Travel: 25% (regionally and globally)
