Platform Lead, Polymer & Material Science

SABIC`s Technology and Innovation (T&I) network consists of more than 1700 employees across six research- and ten application centers around the world. SABIC’s innovation journey is a key enabler for achieving the company’s vision to become the world leader in the chemical industry. Within the T&I organization, the Corporate Research Department (CRD) has the purpose to identify and drive the developments of new products, applications, and processes. The Polymer and Material Science (P&MS) team within CRD focuses on new materials, applications and catalysts that can enable the vision of our product portfolio of the future. Understanding customer needs and connecting them with potential opportunities for SABIC’s business units is one of the crucial responsibilities of the P&MS team.


Develop and drive key strategic development-platform-level initiatives that are aligned with the ambitions of our Polymers business and SABIC's 2025-growth strategy. This platform will require assembling a multi-disciplinary team of resources from within the existing technical organization and motivating them to closely work together in order to accomplish the set vision.

This role involves setting the vision for this platform by connecting with Strategic Business Units in order to drive close alignment, develop go-to-market and technical roadmaps, in close collaboration with the relevant businesses and (corporate) stakeholders.



In short, in this challenging position you will be defining the platform project objectives for SABIC’s Polymers and Materials, develop roadmaps and program management plans, all this in close collaboration with different business partners, internally but also in partnership with universities and institutes. Focus geographically wise will be on Asia, Europa and the US.

  • You will work closely with and provide guidance to the Technical Roadmap and Go-to-Market Roadmap
  • You will ensure sufficient resources in staffing, equipment and funds, all to meet project goals and timelines.
  • You will liaison with Business leadership in order to ensure good connectivity and MDTS Polymer's business unit.
  • And as a member of the Corporate T&I team, you will provide strategic input on new technologies, emerging technologies and organizational needs to efficiently execute T&Is comprehensive objectives.


  • M.S. or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymers Science, or related field.
  • Extended experience in the field of polymeric materials, product development as well as network building
  • A minimum of ~10 years’ experience in these fields is preferred.
  • Ability to reach out cross-organizational lines with sound communications and interactions.
  • Robust record of accomplishment of managing programs at a platform level and leading teams via influence would be ideal, as is prior experience in managing external technology portfolios. 
  • Skills to collaborate in a two-in-a-box working mechanism with Technical program leads in order to incubate platforms
  • Knowledge of building intellectual property with demonstrated examples of successful translation of technical inventions to business profit would be a welcomed experience.
  • You are pro-active, self-propelling, decisive and result-oriented with a strong drive for improvements.
  • Last but certainly not least strong communication skills (in English), excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as proven ability to teach and mentor.
