Environmental Engineer
Job Summary
The primary task and responsibility of the Environmental Engineer is to challenge, inspire, advise and support the management, employees and contractors and this on SABIC Site Geleen’s environmental performance in general and (waste) water performance in specific in order to maintain and reinforce the License to Operate of SABIC Geleen. Next, the Environmental Engineer shall help to realize continuous improvement in this performance as well as the SHE-behavior with respect to environmental safety.
How You Can Be the Impact
- Maintain and reinforce the License to Operate of SABIC by using knowledge and expertise to advise and coordinate in compliance with environmental permits and SEVESO related document (IVR).
- Inform, advice, recommend, challenge and train management team members in an inspiring way concerning continuous improvement in environmental performance, sustainability and SHE-behavior. For instance by discussing changes in law and legislation, observed shortcomings or points for improvement.
- Analyze and review Environmental incidents together with management to determine the root causes of the incident and translate this in recommendations and lessons to be learned in order to prevent recurrence and to improve the SHE-performance.
- Facilitate and support management in SHE-audits, Regulatory audits, inspections and follow-up.
- Facilitate and implement requirements for (waste) water of the Operations Management System (Environment) as Sub Element Leader.
- Coordinate environmental activities like Operations Clean Sweep, fingerprint analysis and optimizations in relation to waste water, minimization of substances of very high concern (and more specific for water), soil remediation of the focus plant, air emissions of the focus plants, as well as periodic environmental reporting towards SABIC Site Geleen and SABIC Corporate as well as the regulator.
- Check and balance on legal compliance of the plants by means of line by line permit audits and legal compliance audits and implement changes in legislative developments for environmental safety.
What Matters to SABIC
- A bachelor or master degree, preferably in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
- At least 3- 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the implementation of environmental legislation.
- Strong capability to think in processes and well developed analytical and conceptual skills.
- Drive and passion to be the specialist on Environmental Engineering in general, and more in specific for (waste) water.
- Good communicator and well-developed social skills.
- Excellent Dutch speaking, reading and writing skills.
- Well-developed knowledge of EHSS Management Systems, Dutch and European government policy, legislation and regulations with regard to the environment and external safety is a plus.
- A pro-active attitude and behavior towards Security, Safety, Health and Environment.
- Customer focused, team player, decisive and result oriented with a strong drive for Responsible Care ® and EHS improvements
