The Analytical Technology department is part of the SABIC global Corporate Technology and Innovation (T&I) organization, with multiple locations in Europe. The analytical technology organization in Europe (>25 FTEs) provides analytical characterization expertise to support T&I programs across Strategic Business Units, delivering innovative solutions for the circular economy, in automotive, healthcare, building and construction, electronics and other markets.
The Chemical Characterization Laboratories are well equipped with an extensive array of state-of-the-art analytical techniques in the area of advanced chromatography, spectroscopy, elemental analysis, morphology / microscopy. To strengthen our molecular characterization (MC) team, we are currently looking for an enthusiastic, creative and highly skilled analytical professional with broad knowledge in instrumental analysis and proven expertise in the molecular characterization of polyolefins. This job is located in Geleen, the Netherlands.
Job Summary
Analytical Scientist - Polyolefin Characterization. As a member of our molecular characterization team you will use your expertise to primarily drive the development of advanced solutions in the area of molecular characterization of polyolefins. The equipment in scope includes a number of High-Temperature SEC systems with multiple detection techniques such as IR, RI, DV and MALS, advanced CCD and MMD fractionation techniques for polyolefins such as HT-2D-LC, aTREF, CEF, pTREF and pMMF.
How You Can Be the Impact:
- Apply a range of molecular characterization techniques such as HT-SEC and fractionation to identify and deliver tailor-made solutions to support a broad scope of activities in the field of polymer R&D. Main tasks will include routine and non-routine analytical testing, troubleshooting, method development, result interpretation and project discussions with stakeholders
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and Analytical Science colleagues to gather knowledge about analytical problem and translate this into analytical solutions. Act as a partner for internal customers to support R&D projects utilizing in-depth technical expertise
- Explore, identify and drive optimization and elevation of methodologies in the area of molecular characterization of polyolefins based on the (future) needs of stakeholders and SABIC’s long-term vision. Screen market for new developments in MC area, establish and maintain contact with instrument vendors and academia and build research proposals
- Drive operational excellence and improvements in MC area, coach and guide analytical technicians
- Prepare SOP’s, technical reports, presentations, external publications, invention disclosures, and other documents
- Participate in cross-functional and global frameworks to promote safety, quality improvement and knowledge exchange
What Matters to SABIC
- MSc with 3+ years of experience and/or technical equivalent degree / PhD in Analytical Science or related field with hands-on experience in the field of molecular characterization of polyolefins
- Expertise and detailed understanding of HT-SEC applied to polyolefins with RI, IR, DV and MALS and combinations of these detectors. Experience with other analytical techniques and polymers is a plus
- Previous experience and strong knowledge in polyolefin fractionation techniques such as TREF, pMMF, HT-2D-LC is preferred
- Knowledge of polyolefin synthetic processes, formulation and compounding as well as applications is a plus
- Proven project management and stakeholder management skills
- Required to provide hands-on analytical support
- Strong safety ethics
- Fluency in English
