SABIC`s Technology network consists of more than 1500 employees across six research- and ten application centers around the world. The Technology organization supports SABIC’s global businesses in realizing its objectives by providing Best-In-Class Technology solutions. Within the SBU Petrochemicals, the ETP & E3P Technology Group develops new products, applications, and processes amongst others for Polycarbonate and Polycarbonate blends.

The Technology department in Europe has an opening for a product developer working on the development, maintenance and implementation of Engineering Thermoplastics (ETP) material solutions for e.g. next generation electrical vehicles, electronic applications requiring the use of recycled materials and 5G infrastructure. We are looking for a creative, inclusive and self-driving colleague to strengthen our team.

 

Job Purpose & Responsibilities  

 

As a product development specialist you

  • Lead and execute the technical deliverables and technologies that are necessary in the design and commercialization of new polymer blends and/or in the optimization of existing polymer-based products.
  • Work closely with global customers and commercial teams to evaluate and identify sustainable opportunities that drive meaningful business growth through the development of new polymers blends and/or opportunities to access new markets opportunities with our existing portfolio.
  • Establish inclusive and early partnerships with multiple functions such as process technology, application technology, analytical technology, color technology and manufacturing to proactively plan and gain inputs on development of new programs.
  • Use of statistical methods such as Design of Experiments (DoE) during the different stages of product development.
  • Follow your ideas from the lab to the market. Use creativity, commitment and drive to transform new products from idea through laboratory-scale to commercial reality.
  • In consultation with project teams coordinate and execute moderately sized, moderately complex multi-disciplinary research projects within predefined deadlines.
  • Present in regional or international conferences/meetings.

 

Requirements & Desired Skills  

 

  • MSc or PhD in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry or other related field.
  • Open to new ideas and eager to learn.
  • Ability to motivate yourself, goal-focused and proactive.
  • Problem solving skills and analytical thinking to mitigate technical challenges.
  • Ability to solve ambiguous, less-defined problems.
  • Experience in linking scientific principles, chemistry and polymer structure and formulation to real world applications is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You are fluent in oral and written Spanish and English.
  • Like to work in a international interdisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to judge technical merits and economics of projects.
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools and Design of Experiments approach is a plus.
  • Knowledge of compounding, injection molding and extrusion processes is a plus.
  • Knowledge of thermoplastics is a plus.
  • Experience in product development is a plus (< 3yrs).
