Inspection Engineer (temp. assignment)

JOB PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Inspection Engineer identifies whether equipment can be operated, adjusted and maintained safely. Typical scope of equipment covered includes static (pressure) equipment, tanks, piping, valves, mechanical handling & lifting equipment as well as civil structures.

 

The role is responsible for detecting deterioration and remedy before resulting in operational risk, fostering a zero injury work environment via proactive programs and interventions.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Improve plant mechanical integrity as per code, industry standards and regulatory requirements. Review and interpret EU, Spain, Regional and local regulations and requirements and their applicability to chemical and plastics industrial operations.
  • Develop, plan and maintain an effective site inspection plan according to the standards, guidelines, regulations and legal requirements. Assess, create reports and recommendations.
  • Manage equipment degradation by a predictive Corrosion Control Program, including Integrity Operating Windows for critical equipment and piping.
  • Assure the integrity of pressure systems equipment by means of performing ‘fitness for service’ assessments for existing equipment/piping and determining any necessary remedial action       
  • Conduct investigations on material and corrosion fields: Participate in Process Risk Analysis as HAZOP, SWIFT, FMECA techniques, etc.
  • Provide mechanical technical support to the Operations and Maintenance departments in the resolution of key integrity and operational issues, related to performance standard failure.
  • Contribute to operational risk assessments.
  • Specify temporary repair designs and refurbishment of defective equipment for the Maintenance department
  • Manage inspection and static equipment engineering standards or specifications, updating as required.
  • Ensure quality management for new and modified equipment according to design codes and national and international specifications/standards
  • Ensure compliance with EU/Spain legislation for new and modified tanks, piping systems or pressure equipment.
  • Lead audits and ensure recommendations have been implemented in accordance to company specifications and applicable standards.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering discipline (only Mechanical or Materials).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of materials, corrosion, welding and NDTs
  • Familiar with EU and local legislation for static equipment.
  • Fluent in Spanish

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • 5-year experience in mechanical engineering design and inspection of static equipment, especially piping, pressure vessels and heat exchangers in the petrochemical or oil & gas industry.
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Engineering.
  • Inspection Certificate on API 510/570/653
  • International Welding Engineer (IWE) or European Welding Engineer (EWE)
  • Experience in maintenance and (risk based) inspection of pressure equipment API 580/581
  • Educated and/or experienced in applying regulations and design codes for pressure vessels, piping and storage tanks, such as WBDA, PRD, PED, ASME, API, TEMA and RToD.
  • Knowledge of pressure equipment design codes and standards
  • SAP
