Job Summary

A Maintenance Mechanic is a multifunctional position which encompasses aspects of safety, maintenance, quality, and productivity.  Mechanics must work closely with Team Members, Engineers, Team Leads, Planners, and Technicians to complete required tasks in an indoor and outdoor work environment.  Job duties include developing predictive and preventive maintenance tasks by reviewing corrective work workers, past failure experience, discussion with equipment manufacturers of recommended preventive maintenance procedures as well as consultants or peers at other sites with similar equipment.  Mechanics are responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, replacement of rotating, reciprocating, pressurized, or other mechanical systems equipment including pumps, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, valves, piping, tracing, motors, seals, bearings, machines, etc.  Mechanics must be competent in the use of precision maintenance equipment such as laser alignment tools, etc.  Mechanics collect, analyze, and report maintenance information using personal computers and associated software as a key function of the position.  Mechanics are responsible for preventive maintenance tasks, calibrations, inspections, and implementation of equipment reliability improvements or enhancements.  Mechanics must be able to work overtime and respond quickly to maintenance calls when emergencies arise.  Mechanics must be willing to complete necessary training in a timely manner, learn new technologies, and apply knowledge towards increasing equipment life.  Mechanics must be willing to work in unassigned areas and be flexible to changes in customer requests and needs of the business.  Mechanics are required to perform other duties as assigned. 

 

How You Can Be the Impact

  • Extensive training and previous work experience in maintaining/repairing rotating, reciprocating, pressurized, or other mechanical systems. 
  • Must be a Journeyman Millwright or have NCCER+ certification or other equivalent degree in Mechanical Maintenance field with 3 years of experience or have at least 5 years of Millwright/Mechanical Maintenance experience if no degree or certification is held.  In such case, the expectation will be that you would continuously work towards obtaining National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification if hired. 
  • Capable of listening, reading, writing, calculating, analyzing, and evaluating conditions of equipment for repair and determine safety sequence to prevent personal injury. 
  • Must be able to comply with all safety policies/practices including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety goggles, steel shoe shoes, hearing protection, face shield, respirator, chemical suit, gloves, harnesses, fire rated suit, etc.    
  • Active member of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) for a minimum of five years (training provided):  live fire training, rope/repelling from buildings, emergency medical responders training, hazmat training, confined space rescue training, CPR training, medical/first aid training, etc..  TRT membership and training are a condition of employment.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts (days, nights, weekends, holidays)  
  • Ability to work overtime as required including call-ins, weekends, and holidays.
  • Capable of performing sustained physical activities including but not limited to walking, climbing ladders, stairs, standing, squatting, kneeling pushing/pulling, and ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in hot, cool, and humid conditions, in addition to smoke, fumes from grinding, welding, cutting, sawing, soldering, and application of paints, coatings, films or other techniques to prevent degradation of equipment. 
  • Work in confined spaces with limited lighting while wearing respirator/SCBA and work at elevated heights.  
  • Respirator fit and medical approval required prior to placement. 
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

What Matters to SABIC

  • Must be 18 years of age or older, willing to take a drug test, and have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States of America.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education diploma.
  • Journeyman’s Certification or equivalent in Industrial Mechanical Maintenance and 3 years Journeyman experience OR 5 years Journeyman experience with the expectation you will continuously work towards obtaining National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification. 
  • Experience in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of chemical and manufacturing plant equipment such as gearboxes, pumps, bearings, hydraulic systems, seals, motors, blowers, etc.
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills; basic computer skills. 
  • Ability to acquire the demonstrated level of proficiency in WorkKeys® Assessment:
    • Applied Mathematics:  4
    • Workplace Documents:  4
    • Graphic Literacy:  4
