Department

The function of Industry Regulations team is to engage the industry regulatory and standards setting bodies to help understand and/or develop regulations and standards those will influence the applications  in the prioritized markets for SABIC’s products. The Specialist in this role will report to Manager, Industry Regulations. This role will work closely with marketing and technology to identify opportunities for material innovation in the regulated markets.

 

Job Purpose & Responsibilities

  • We are looking for a candidate who has very extensive knowledge and experience in thermoplastic applications in various industries, such as electrical and electronics, automotive, medical devices, building and constructions, etc. The candidate should be very familiar with thermoplastic material testing, performance requirements in some of the applications mentioned above.
  • The candidate’s role is to liaise with and take part in European and international agencies (IEC, CEN, CENELEC, EFRA, etc.) to develop and advocate for codes/standards/regulations that help drive the specification of SABIC materials in regulated/standardized markets including mobility, electronics, infrastructure, and other emerging applications. The candidate should be able to understand and interpret the prevailing end-use codes/standards/regulations for devices and components with the focus on influencing the development process.
  • The candidate will evaluate and monitor regional and global regulatory trends in key markets and emerging markets and provide technical support on regulatory aspects for external customers, internal commercial, marketing and technology teams.

 

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or Materials Science; MS desired.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the plastic industry, 10 years is desired.
  • Well-developed English language skills, both written and spoken. Dutch preferred or willing to learn. Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Deep knowledge on thermoplastic material testing and performance in some major applications.
  • Deep application development knowledge including part design, material selection, application performance and failure mechanisms, etc.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic thinking.
  • 25% traveling (estimate)

 

Desired but not a must:

  • Extensive knowledge of global regulatory and standards agencies that mandate the end-use performance of plastic applications in markets such as Electronics, Transportation and Infrastructure. Broad experience serving on technical committees of various regulation and standards organizations.
  • Familiarity with standards bodies such IEC, UL, CEN, CENELEC, ASTM, ISO, ASME, etc. and familiar with third-party listing agencies such as UL, VDE, TÜV, etc.
  • The candidate will work from our site in Bergen op Zoom.
