Senior Legal Counsel Europe
Job Summary
The successful candidate will provide day-to-day legal support to the group’s two European operating sites, European corporate functions and commercial teams. This role is ideal for a generalist lawyer who wants to develop broad in-house experience in a dynamic environment. The position is based in the Netherlands and reports to the Senior Manager, Legal - Europe.
How You Can Be the Impact
- Be fluent in Dutch and English.
- Be a lawyer qualified in the Netherlands.
- Have a minimum of 7-10 years of post-qualification experience in legal roles, preferably within the engineering thermoplastics or chemical manufacturing industries.
- Visit the group’s site in Bergen op Zoom, the Netherlands at least once a week.
- Be capable of drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including supply, distribution, procurement, logistics, and service agreements.
- Provide legal advice to site managers, procurement and commercial teams.
- Assist with compliance matters relevant to the chemicals sector, including REACH, product stewardship, environmental permitting, and health & safety obligations.
- Monitor regulatory developments in the EU and the Netherlands and help translate them into practical guidance for the business teams.
- Support internal compliance programs, including competition law, anti-bribery, data protection (GDPR), and trade controls.
- Manage legal disputes, including litigation and arbitration.
What Matters to SABIC
- Experience of advising on Dutch employment law matters, including hiring, employment contracts, working conditions, performance management, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Experience of environmental litigation.
- Experience of supervisory board meetings and preparation for board meetings in the Netherlands.
