Process / Safety Engineer

Job Summary

 

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and result driven Process / Safety Engineer. In this role, you will identify and develop improvement initiatives that enhance the safety of our plants while supporting our global business objectives.

The Process/Safety Engineer will support and facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies, Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), facility‑siting evaluations, and the management and safeguarding of Process Safety Information. The role also includes supporting the Management of Change (MoC) process and providing process safety services to our Chemical and Compounding Operations

Close collaboration with other engineering disciplines, relevant stakeholders and colleagues is essential. You will serve as a key link between process development, project implementation, operations, and maintenance.

 

How You can Be the Impact:

  • Ensure that process design and process technology are aligned with process safety requirements (OMS procedures, Dutch and International legislation and norms, SABIC-HPP Engineering Standards and practices).
  • Ensure MOC, Pre-Startup Safety review (PSSR), startup and ongoing operations meet OMS (SHEMs) requirements. Support company plan for PHA study execution and agree on content, ownership and timing of PHA recommendations with operational management.
  • Investigate accident, injury, and near miss reports to determine process safety deficiencies and discuss corrective actions.
  • Develop a systematic program to strengthen process safety culture, monitor competency levels and behaviors, and provide guidance on identifying and addressing process safety training gaps.
  • Support implementation of European and Global SABIC-HPP Process Safety initiatives.
  • Ensure the quality and actuality of the External Safety Report, interact with governmental representatives.

 

What Matters to SABIC:

  • Bachelor / master’s degree in chemical engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5+ years working experience in chemical or mechanical engineering. Candidates with training in PHA methodologies and/or LOPA are preferred.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Flexible and capable of managing multiple priorities within a matrix organization.
  • Strong process engineering and project management skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Proficient in both Dutch and English, spoken and written.
