Operational Technology Engineer
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and result driven Systems / Control / OT (operational technology) engineer.
The Technical Department is the center of technical expertise at the Bergen op Zoom site of SABIC Specialties. It delivers expert knowledge to all facilities with a focus on the chemical and compounding plants. The Systems / Control / OT engineer designs, implements and maintains industrial control systems (PLC’s, SCADA and DCS) and operational technology networks to ensure safe and efficient production.
How Can You Be the Impact:
- Designing and implementing systems within OT environments
- Securing Operational Technology networks, including firewalls, switches, and patch management
- Analyzing and evaluating equipment and software strategies in relation to business objectives
- Leading reliability studies such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM2), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), and Reliability Instrumentation Systems (RIS)
- Leading projects from design through commissioning
- Developing investment programs to keep control systems reliable and compliant
- Advising management on AI applications
- Responsible for Systems / Control / OT Key Performance Indicators
- Ensuring all systems remain compliant with SABIC policies.
What Matters To SABIC:
- Bachelor / master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Control or Automation engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of 5+ years’ working experience in chemical or petrochemical industry
- Experience with industrial control system architecture and network security
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and facilitate cross‑functional discussions
- Strong project management capabilities at an advanced level
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines and organizational layers
- Skilled in conveying engineering practices, background, and reasoning clearly and effectively
- Structured approach to administration and document control
- Fluency in Dutch and English
