Engineer, EHSS

Job Summary 

 

The EHSS organization is part of the SABIC Specialties Manufacturing organization. The organization is responsible for improving the EHSS performance by analyzing current conditions, initiating improvement projects and advising internal stakeholders at our manufacturing locations in Bergen op Zoom and Raamsdonksveer. In addition, we provide advice and support to our Technology and Supply Chain Department.  We drive EHSS innovation, strengthen site-wide awareness and culture, ensure compliance with safety legislation and corporate standards and maintain contact with authorities. As EHSS- Engineer you will join the EHSS Department and report to the EHSS Manager.

 

  • The EHSS function is key in leading and supporting the organization to achieve and sustain an outstanding EHSS performance.
  • Create awareness among all employees and contractors in relation to environment, health, (process and personal) safety and security within the plants and areas of responsibility.
  • Provide professional advice to and actively support BoZ/RdV leadership in striving towards continuous improvement of EHSS management and achieving EHSS objectives.
  • Provide input to set targets in relation to EHSS objectives, Performance and Programs regarding content, process and progress; provide feedback.
  • Provide support to the management team in translating and implementing legislation and regulations in the field of EHSS.

 

How can you be the impact?

 

  • Act as a SHEM (Sub) Administrator for the management system (OMS).
  • Industrial Hygiene & RI&E: Monitor and assess risks and opportunities related to the plants, new and updates of (inter)national standards and legislation in the field of occupational safety, health and industrial hygiene.
  • Ensure compliance with BoZ site (permits) requirements.         
  • Follow up on concerns/incidents to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct investigations of EHSS incidents.
  • Perform incident reporting and EHSS operation trend analyses as input for proposals for improvement of EHSS Performance.
  • Reporting EHSS KPI’s to management.
  • Act as an expert advisor for all personnel in relation to EHSS aspects.
  • Responsible for initiating improvement projects with respect to EHSS and offering technical support in EHSS matters.
  • Contribute EHSS expertise in Management of Change, JSAs and the EHSS Committee.
  • Conduct Thematic Inspections and safety operation rounds to verify EHSS behavior in practice, actively conveying/passing on information about EHSS standards by highlighting (un)safe situations and actions and providing feedback on these.
  • Responsible for the preparation of internal and external EHSS audits.

 

 

What Matters to SABIC?

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering or an equivalent qualification (higher professional education level)
  • Qualified Safety Specialist (HVK)
  • Affinity with Industrial Hygiene
  • Experience in compounding or chemical environment is an advantage
  • Knowledge of legislation and (SABIC) regulations concerning occupational health and safety and the environment.
  • Dutch and English language
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong influencing skills, with the ability to operate effectively within a matrix environment, gaining commitment at all organizational levels. Ability to influence people without the need for a direct reporting line
