Engineer, Chemical Operations - Chlorine Utilities
Job Summary
The Chlorine Utilities (CU) Plant produces chlorine, hydrogen, caustic soda and utilities that are essential for the production processes on site. The plant operates 24/7 through a five-shift organization, supported by a day organization with expertise in Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability and EHS.
Safe, reliable and efficient operations are the responsibility of the entire plant organization. The day organization and shift teams work closely together to maintain plant performance, solve operational issues and implement improvements.
This position is part of the day organization of the Chlorine Utilities Plant. The role supports the shift organization with technical expertise, coordinates with supporting disciplines and contributes to the safe and reliable operation of the plant.
The Operations Engineer supports the daily operation of the Chlorine Utilities Plant by monitoring plant performance, resolving operational issues and identifying improvement opportunities. The role helps maximize plant availability while maintaining safe, stable and efficient operations.
How You Can Be the Impact
Plant Operations
- Monitor production performance, including output, raw material consumption, energy usage and product quality.
- Support the shift organization in resolving operational issues and process disturbances.
- Identify bottlenecks and propose practical improvements.
- Help achieve daily production targets.
Operational Support
- Manage raw material planning and registration in SAP.
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability and EHS to resolve operational issues.
- Support commissioning new equipment and process modifications.
- Review engineering changes for operability and safety.
Safety and Reliability
- Implement operational actions resulting from HAZOPs, incident investigations and other safety reviews.
- Participate in HAZOPs, PSSRs and incident investigations.
- Monitor process and equipment performance and recommend improvements.
- Support turnaround preparation and define the operational scope.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze process data and identify opportunities to improve plant performance.
- Support improvement projects and implement agreed actions.
- Share operational knowledge and contribute to standard ways of working.
What Matters to SABIC
Education
- BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Experience
- Experience in the chemical or petrochemical industry, troubleshooting process installations and/or SAP are a pre.

- Good communicator and team player.
- Able to work across different disciplines.
- Risk-aware and safety focused.
- Fluent in Dutch and English.
