JOB SUMMARY

 

• Responsible for maintaining the Operation's focus on Environmental and OSHA compliance in a complex manufacturing processing plant where production and cost pressures are very high; requiring strong commitment and leadership skills.

• Must be able to make decisions that may be viewed by the Operation as holding up progress on a project or maintenance activity that impacts cost and production.

• Must be willing to adapt his/her role and responsibilities to meet the changing needs of the business.

• Responsible for providing expertise and leadership pertaining to various site permits and environmental reporting requirements, including but not limited to Title V, NSPS, PSD, NPDES, RCRA, RMP, DOT, SARA, MACT,SPCC and BACT

• Must have experience with permitting (air, water, and waste), stack testing, and other federal and state regulatory standards

 

 

How You Can Be the Impact

 

  • Reports directly to BSL Site EHSS Manager.
  • Owns the EHS&S program for the Bay St. Louis site
  • Serves as the site focal point for Responsible Care and ensures all Responsible Care criteria requirements are met
  • Serves as the single point of contact for EHS&S/OSHA compliance issues within the manufacturing operations and provides technical EHS&S expertise and coaching to facilitate broad accountability of the EHS&S process
  • Serves as the focal point for regulatory agency and SABIC EHS&S audits and inspections
  • Works with area operations to meet EHS&S/OSHA expectations and improve operating metrics
  • Implements programs that achieve both regulatory requirements and operational flexibility
  • Provides strategic leadership for the upgrade of current EHS&S programs, including, but not limited to, process development, Facility Siting, incident investigation, and employee training
  • Proposes and implements environmental guidelines and procedures within broad principles and policies set by the organization to meet EHS&S requirements supporting short and long-term business needs
  • Has strong technical writing skills and is familiar with air, water and waste permit applications, emission calculations, regulatory interpretations, pollution control devices, and interpreting technical reports 
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements for assigned programs
  • Investigates accidents or problem areas (manufacturing, logistics, etc.) and recommends future preventive measures
  • Solicits input from a participating work group to incorporate best practices and site philosophies into their projects and programs
  • Works independently and with minimal supervision
  • Acts as a behavioral standard in the leadership role related to Risk Management, Housekeeping and Quality of Work to assure the attitude and performance is supportive of the BSL Management Philosophy and Principles.
  • Works closely with and will obtain direction from EHSS Manager, Safety Specialist, and EHSS Engineer, in addition to the Area Process Manager

 

What Matters to SABIC

 

  • Must have a Technical Degree; *(BS, MS desired); and must have a minimum 5 years EHSS field experience or environmental technical training 
  • Must have a valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) form the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard prior to commencing employment

 

 

Physical Requirements:

 

• Must be physically able to sit 25%, stand 15%, walk 50%, bend at waist 10 – 90 degree for 5%-10% during workday

• Manual dexterity will require keyboard operation, manipulation of small and large objects, utilizing various tools, and perform two related task simultaneously

• Must have the ability to lift objects up to 35 pounds, hold objects up to 35 pounds without assistances

• Must have the ability to carry objects up to 35, pounds from one level to another, on a regular basis

• Must have the ability to climb stairs, up to 96 steps, 3-5 times a day

• Must have the ability to climb ladders up to 80 feet, with landings every 10 feet, 3-5 times a day

• The sensory requirement are sight (20/35 with or without glasses or corrective lenses), hearing, smell and touch

• Per day reading 35%, writing 15%, calculations 15%, analysis 15% and visualization 20%

• Must be able to wear hearing protection

• Must be able to access areas of limited space and reach valves

• Must be able to wear respiratory protection in certain areas
