Sr. Manager, Pilot Plant Technology

Org Unit Name:  Pilot Plant Technology
Location:  India-Bangalore 



The job entails leading a team of engineers / scientists in the development and demonstration of technology solutions to business critical problems at kilogram scale for Chemical SBU.  This includes batch and continuous processes, catalyst testing, evaluation, benchmarking etc. Focus on Waste plastic recycle to pyoil, liquids to chemicals and other value added chemicals is also need of the hour. Generating engineering data of Technology developed in-house for CDP / PDP/ commercial applications. Addressing the next gen requirements for Carbon neutrality / building sustainable solutions is key expectation of this job.

Requires focus on safe operations, strict adherence to best EHS practices (MOC, PHA, PSSR etc.).

Job requires that the individual create and manage projects with strategic importance to Chemical SBU. This should result in EBITDA generation, technology transfers, No. of Gate passing etc. as per the KPIs. 

Hire, Train, develop and manage the talent is another key feature of this job.                                                            





Safety Health and Environment

  • Compliance and adherence to best EHS practices. Run the pilot facility safely. Implement best working practice (MOC, PHA, PSSR etc.) within the facility
  • Ensure the contract workers on site follow the SABIC guidelines of safety and compliance.

Execution of SBU technology Strategy

  • Ensure team delivers on the projects. Build a competent and energetic team. Hire & nurture the best talent from available pool.
  • Accountable to put strategies, engage with global leaders to develop road map for technology scale up , CDP plans and resources in-place for the team to conduct hypothesis driven experiments, deliver results on time to meet the expectations
  • Monitor the Accolade deliverables, make sure of data quality, deliver the milestones
  • Project management and leadership -Track project schedules, coordinating project review meetings within the team and across the global team for effective project progress and to deliver on schedule. Allocate adequate and appropriate resources to each.
  • Manage capex / opex KPIs.

         Manpower and Talent Management

  • Responsible for people, capability and resource management
  • Supervise and mentor scientists/researchers / engineers through goal setting, feedback, coaching and performance evaluation.
  • Make sure that the team is to stay technically knowledgeable and up-to-date with new developments in the industry through seminars, conference participations and group discussions.
  • Shoulder organizational responsibilities for organization operational excellence by identifying highly talented and motivated candidates with right skill sets
  • Ensure the team compliance with company policies, the highest standard of ethics, safety and good laboratory practices (conducts regular EHS audits)
  • On the job training, work on individual IDPs / skill development

         IP and Know-how Management

  • Generate intellectual property for the company and help protect it through meticulous documentation.
  • Ensure meticulous documentation of the project work and associated knowledge to put the company in an advantageous position by following SABIC IP standards.        


  • Global networking within SABIC T&I and operations to create projects of business importance. 
  • Understand the business strategic imperatives for multiple SBUs & align the team and projects to serve it. Establish and maintain healthy relation with external bodies like academic institutions, trade bodies, equipment manufacturers and designers so as to leverage the best available process technology breakthroughs for the project delivery                                                           




  • BE/ME in chemical engineering with > 15 yrs. (or) PhD (Chemical engineering)  with ~  15 years of technology development and technical services experience
  • Demonstrated problem solving capability
  • 15 years and above in managing technology development projects.
  • Demonstrated capability of commercialization of developed process technologies. Risk assessment and abatement in commercial translation
