Senior Electrical Engineer, HV & Power Distribution

As a member of the Teesside Technical Engineering Team, the job holder’s responsibilities include:

  • Act as Authorising Engineer and Electrical Duty Holder for SABIC-owned assets on Teesside (termed Electrical Installation Responsible Person – EIRP - within SABIC).
  • Own, maintain and update the site’s Management Procedures and Engineering Standards relating to HV and LV Power Distribution, incorporating the latest learning and best practice from the Corporation, Industry, Industry Bodies and Standards Organisations as appropriate.
  • Advise on the implementation and administration of the Company’s electrical safety rules; monitor and audit the application of these rules.
  • Define the required training and appoint (or re-appoint) Senior Authorised / Authorised Persons to provide the necessary cover for all electrical systems and installations for which the company has responsibility
  • Support technical queries from Senior Authorised Persons, including out of hours and call outs as may be necessary.
  • Conduct routine audits of Senior Authorised / Authorised Persons to ensure compliance with the rules and maintenance of individual capability; this will include the withdrawal of authorisation where competence is not demonstrated.   
  • Generate an annual report for the Site Senior Management detailing the performance of the HV networks, compliance with codal inspection and testing for the HV networks and the performance /  operational experience of Senior Authorised / Authorised Persons
  • Support Management of Change on site, specifically for all modifications relating to the High Voltage networks.
  • Monitor external databases such as NEDERS, CEDREC and EEMUA; disseminate relevant learning through the organisation and incorporate learning into the Site Standards as appropriate.
  • Own the short, medium and long-term asset life plans for the HV Networks.
  • Oversee technical engineering input to major and minor projects including electrical design review and electrical appointments within SABIC’s Approved Design Organisations.
  • Represent the SABIC UK in relevant SABIC global networks in your role as EIRP

 

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A degree qualified Electrical Engineer
  • A Chartered Engineer (or Fellow) of the IET.
  • An Authorising Engineer with experience in the operation of HV networks and able to demonstrate expertise in role developed from exposure to relevant engineering issues
  • Have a minimum of five years relevant experience as a practicing Senior Authorised Person (Electrical), including the production and approval of switching plans.
  • Possess a sound technical engineering background with a heightened understanding of both Low and High Voltage systems and operating rules
  • Able to demonstrate competency and suitability for the role through an understanding of the tasks involved and knowledge of SABIC or other relevant High Voltage Safety Rules and procedures
  • Able to work autonomously, with a proven ability to influence groups and individuals at all levels of the Organisation
  • Able to maintain good relations with external organisations including equipment suppliers, design houses and specialist contractors.
