Job Summary

Are you a student with interest in plastic technology areas such as process development, part design, and application testing? If so, SABIC's Global Application Technology team wants you to join us as an application engineering intern to help create a unique advantage for SABIC Specialties by solving current and future industry needs related to the application of our advanced materials. This internship will be held on-site in Pittsfield, MA - late May- late August of 2024. 

 

As a member of our team, you will apply a multidisciplinary technical approach to projects that will deliver tangible business impact to our customers in emerging fields such as sustainable polymers, self-driving vehicles, 3D molded interconnects, energy storage, aerospace, and 5G communications.

 

To be successful in this role, you should have a scientific mindset that can be applied to real development activities, as well as strong presentation and written communication skills. You should also have the hands-on ability and a solid understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and part performance.

 

How You Can Be the Impact

  • Work in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Collaborate with other team members on project assignments and gain technical experience under their guidance.
  • Translate complex technical data into useful knowledge to support decision making.
  • Document experimental results for internal technical reports, external publications, and presentations.
  • Apply scientific fundamentals to perform research, experimentation, analysis, and the interpretation of results.
  • Conduct processing studies with commercial and developmental resins. Optimize processing conditions using data acquisition software and end-product performance testing.

 

What Matters to SABIC

  • Currently working to complete Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Strong hands-on ability and understanding of mechanical design principles and part performance.
  • Demonstrated problem solving capability with experimental design and statistical analysis experience preferred.
  • Experience with JMP, Minitab, or equivalent software preferred.
  • Must work well in a team atmosphere.
  • Strong presentation and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Work Availability

Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Applicants must be regularly available and willing to work Monday through Friday during assigned hours of operation and such other hours as the company determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
